WATCH: Hindi lahat ng drug addicts pinapatay, karamihan, nag babagong buhay

Contrary to what the mainstream media shows, not all illegal drug suspects are being killed during the drug operations done by Philippine National Police (PNP), most of them voluntarily surrendered in the hopes to have a new life.

One proof of that would be the 204 drug surrenderers who joined the “Walk of Change” in Tanauan City in Batangas after completing a 3-month rehabilitation program provided by a non-government organization in cooperation with Dangerous Drug Board, PNP, local churches, local government units.

The said NGO is called Simula ng Pag-Asa also known as SIPAG, the organization offers faith-based recovery program for drug dependents who surrendered to the government as part of Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Aside from addressing the emotional, physiological, relational, and spiritual battles of drug dependents, SIPAG also addresses these needs of the surrenderer’s family.

Through the group’s 12-week program, the drug dependents would realize that there is more life than substance abuse.

SIPAG project lead Lawrence Tugaoen said that the drug surrenderers who undergo bible studies every week are now seeking for more spiritual growth rather than satisfaction brought by drugs.

“Katulad nung mga mine-meet naming ng drug surrenderees, ngayon they’re doing bible studies in between the week. Kasi naghahanap na sila eh… kumbaga, parang pag nakita mo na sila ng Sabado gusto nila magkita pa kayo in between. It’s so encouraging na nakikita mo yun sa community,” Tugaoen said.
